MaxQDA

MaxQDA is a software program for qualitative text analysis, which is particularly intended for theses (bachelor's and master's theses).

To use MaxQDA via the remote desktop server (RDP) 'rd.ifkw.lmu.de', you must be logged into the university network. This can be done either via the Eduroam Wi-Fi access (Eduroam Wi-Fi instructions) or from home using a VPN client (eduVPN instructions). You can then connect to the remote desktop server (RDP) 'rd.ifkw.lmu.de' (instructions for remote desktop access).

  • Once you have logged into the RDP server, there should be a shortcut to the current version of MaxQDA on the desktop. If this shortcut does not exist or has been lost, you can press the Windows key to open the search field and enter maxqda. The first suggestion should be the correct one.
  • After the initial start, both the license agreements and the privacy policy must be confirmed.
  • MaxQDA should now open and automatically display all projects located on the private H: drive.

Problem Solving

  • If MaxQDA does not automatically log in with the correct license, you must select "Connect to a network license" in the overview.
  • In the following window, check that the correct server address "maxqda.ifkw.lmu.de" and the corresponding port 21990 are entered. Then select the menu item "Search for license automatically" and click on "Update."
  • After a brief search, the current MaxQDA license should be displayed. Click on it once and confirm by clicking "Connect" at the bottom.
  • If the automatic license search does not return any results, you can also enter the current license name under the "License name" menu item. Then confirm by clicking on "Connect."
